Well it appears to work as Robin you should have a message but not sure if this new system notifies you?

I had to click on the Private Message tab twice as the first time it went back to the forum menu? something which needs fettling.

    Anyone got any carrier Pidgeon’s!

It’s not as intuitive as the old version where it was possible to PM from the observers profile page or image. I did a test message but didn’t send it.
Under Forum third heading along Private Messages, I had to click on this twice before I got a menu, under New Message I started typing your name and it’s only when I got to your surname your full name appeared in blue?
I was hoping for a button in the members profile like the old system or along side their name in the forum post.
I’ll try it again in a minute

If you manage to contact the authors through the publishers they might be of assistance

Seems no way to attach images to posts either, but I guess that’s a low priority

This might not be much use but Comet Peltier-Kellaway was discovered in December 1943.

There is a Kellaway Building Supplies which might have a family connection so might be worth contacting them, https://www.kellaway.co.uk/

The local paper the Yeovil Express has changed hands since 1943 but they would have archives, my thoughts are they would have run a story about the discovery of the comet on 19th December 1943, might be worth enquiring with them to see what they have on record. https://www.yeovilexpress.co.uk/

I guess the comet was discovered with his 7.5 inch Cooke which he mounted a camera with a Zeiss lens, perhaps the antique telescope society might have further details

Attempt 2 and 3 on Denis’s thread and both vanished, so I asked if the Highlands Astronomical society would pass my message onto him. it appears the thread on GF Kellaway won’t accept any replies?

Sad to hear Roger is retiring as an officer in the VSS, I for one thank him for his hard work and dedication.

Interesting prediction in the attachment below outlining a possibility of a fade in June.

Ian built a photoelectric photometer in the early 1980’s but couldn’t get any useful observations from it, I think this could well be it. What I don’t know is why he couldn’t get it to work as he intended, it would be a shame to throw it away if someone could investigate it further. Perhaps Roger Pickard or Gary Poyner could shed some light on to why it didn’t do what he expected it to do?

He was a lovely chap and the VSS and Swansea AS do miss him.

A sad loss, I too agree an obituary should appear in the JBAA

The link below might be useful as the Stellarium handbook is certainly heavy going.

I think it was in the book The BAA the second fifty years, however since I wrote this I just looked and the picture isn’t in there, I wonder if a third fifty years will ever be written?

I just binned one of these, I’ve had it for 5-6 years but rarely use it preferring a Herschel wedge, but hold it up to the light and check for pinholes. I stored mine indoors in a clean plastic bag in a foam case, when I had it new I noticed a cluster of  pinholes but a couple of weekends ago I got it out and the result is the picture below. According to Seymour the coating is on the back,  (I thought it was sandwiched between layers of glass) and they recommended using a black permanent marker pen to cover them, something the good people on the Solar Chat forum which the BAA is a sponsor recommended not to do as it could endanger your eyesight and the camera chip. Since I haven’t used it for quite sometime and it’s remained in its case indoors, I’ve no idea how the pin holes became so large, perhaps flaking over time around the edges? as they were nowhere near as large as this the last time I used it. The filter in the picture below fits a 90mm refractor, I drilled a very small hole in the dew cap which the screw passed through as it nearly blew off in a gust of wind.

I did ask Seymour if the coating degrades over time or if it was flaking around the edges caused by incorrect storage, ( can’t see how I could have stored it any better) but they only suggested the black marker pen. Out of curiosity when they told me the coating is on the back I tried to scratch it with my fingernail, but couldn’t make any impression on it.
