Perhaps what would be useful is for the various national organisations, or sections thereof, to get together occasionally to swap ideas, broadcast their activities, suggest campaigns. Would not be too difficult in this era of hybrid/on-line meetings. We should have a lot to learn from one another.

I looked at various IAU Citizen Science related websites and wasn’t to impressed. They seem to consist of links, some of which didn’t work, to other organisations without any added value.

    Hi Grant,
Didn’t have any specific thoughts, just wanted to garner some views on the matter. Will have to take a look at the IAU’s Citizen Science agenda as mentioned by David.

    Hi Martin,
Thanks – didn’t know that. Communication should be much easier these days and mtgs could be in-person, hybrid or on-line so no need for expensive travel accomodation. Lets see….

    Hi Paul,

Sounds quite interesting especially about the secondary eclipse. Please let me know of any developments.

    Hi Richard,

I am using the SLOOH 0.5m telescope to obtain 5 images per night of TOI-1259A b. After a month or so I will process these with Astoimagej for photometry and then construct a folded phase curve using Peranso. Only just started to learn the latter so might take a while.

    Hi Robin,

Siegfried Vanaverbeke asks ‘Can an estimate of the angular size of the source star be derived from spectroscopy?’

    Robin,
Probably an obvious question but I assume the spectra in your post are those of the source star. Would these not be ‘contaminated’ by the lens star?

    Have decided not to go ahead with the paper for a couple of reasons;

    • observations dried up mostly due to bad weather at observing sights
    • previous publication by the BAA Variable Star Section in their recent circular

Will wait until another good example arises.

Thanks for your comments – guess that means I am actually going to have to write it now –

    Hi Robin,

Thanks for the explanation. Do you think this event would be worth a paper in the JBAA?  I could do the handling of alerts and the photometry aspects but would look to you to cover the spectral side including how this confirms, or otherwise, a microlensing event.

    Hi Robin,

What would you expect to see if it wasn’t a microlensing event? Be stars are often quoted as possibilities for example,

Setting up our own robotic telescope in a good observing location with access for both members and e.g. schools would be a good use of our money in my view

Guess it was just a joke looking at the other papers – going for a lie down.

Unless I have got hold of the wrong end of the stick surely the threat is unchanged. The majority of the planets have been there for a long time but its just that we are discovering more of them.
