KeymasterHi James,
I don’t have direct experience as I have a B600 on my Lunt 60 – but the B600 is recommended for visual use, and the B1200 for imaging.
Quite an expensive upgrade as an experiment…
Hopefully someone will be able to advise better.

KeymasterMy meteor camera picked up 7 last night, over what was quite a cloudy (snowy) and moonlit night.

KeymasterI used the Ordnance Survey OS Locate app on my phone – gives lat / long to 4 decimal places and altitude in metres to 1 decimal place.

KeymasterWould be worth talking to @DominicFord – he has a generator at in-the-sky and it was used for generating a big planisphere in an Australian dark-sky park. You might be able to annotate the generated map, or Dominic might be able to help you.

KeymasterAssuming I found the right article this link should work.
Fingers crossed

KeymasterCongratulations Alan – a great result.
Maybe you could write this up for the E&T section newsletter or the Journal?

KeymasterI think one of the points of the Spray Silvering technique is that the mirror does not need burnishing after.
Some of the big dob users in North West USA (Howard Banich, Mel Bartels et al.) were the trailblazers with the technique due to the cost and difficulty of getting their very large mirrors aluminised.

KeymasterBy mistake I have posted the reply twice, and the second version is correct. I have now forgotten how to remove the first!
Hi Richard – I’ve deleted it for you… (on the toolbar at the right top of the post there us a “BIN” option – and after that you can then get a DELETE option to remove it completely).

KeymasterHi Alex,
yes it was an interesting presentation. I had tried sonification of my magnetometer data using a package called Strauss in the past, but was inspired to try Astronify.
Attached is a sonification of the magnetometer data from the arrival of the CME on Friday afternoon through to midnight on he 11th. And a plot of the data in arbitrary normalised units.
Enjoy!

KeymasterIs your image from a GMN system? What is the camera/lens configuration are you using?
Hi Bill – yes, just the standard kit – IMX291 and 4mm lens.

KeymasterPoor weather and bright Moon made it difficult here in Orkney too Bill.
My meteor camera recorded 10 Lyrids out of the 20 meteors detected.
The brightest here was mag -1.29 at 02:48 on April 23.

KeymasterI think the Journal search is working, it’s just difficult to be specific enough about what you are looking for.
You can search on a phrase in quotes which helps like “ngc 5194” but if you don’t put it in quotes it will match both ngc or 5194.
And if you search on something common like “patrick moore” you will get a lot of hits.

KeymasterThere were some spam forum replies which were confusing the website – these have now been dealt with, so things should be back to normal (whatever that is).

KeymasterI also did not keep accurate records in 2023 (a new years resolution for 2024 again – sure to fail though 😉
But I photographed aurora on 13 nights.
Had 6 nights clear and dark enough for wide field imaging (including comets)
Just 6 visual deep sky observing sessions (limited by dark of Moon periods, and telescope issues)
39 solar observing sessions in h-alphaNight time observing is severely restricted from May to July due to the light nights at 59 degrees north.
