SpaceX and others- appear to have a disregard for the impact on Astronomical research when they continually pollute our skies.

I have seen too many Astro-images that have been captured by the Amature- Astronomical community. Ruined because of these satellites.

This is very interesting and something of a potential worry to Astro-Imagers.

    Like myself.

I hope everyone gets a good view. Here, and I hope Jeremy doesn’t have any. My skies are totally obscured by the dreaded cloud. It might start to break up later but at the moment it’s solid.

    Recieved today.

    Thank you everyone.

in reply to: Feb JBAA #583840

Thank you Andy for checking this for me. And a big thank you to the staff in the office who are working hard to keep the ball rolling despite the current climate.

in reply to: Feb JBAA #583832

    Thanks for the replies.

I had to ask the office to send out my last two JBAA as I never received them. Hopefully this time. I will.

There are some very good images on here of this fine comet. And I hope we are treated to some good views of the comet during the coming weeks.

I have to say I don’t like the way S&T gets sent out to Subscribers, well in advance of the published date.

January I received March. And yesterday. A letter to renew my subscription which isn’t due until August.

I also saw this amazing site of VMJ.

But by the time I was able to try for an unaided day time observation. It clouded.

When was the last time we had a conjunction like this? In the 46+ years of amateur astronomy. I can not recall seeing the Moon between two bright planets.

Joseph Ashbrook was the editor back in the day when Jeremy got his first Sky and Telescope.

I started collecting mine in 1978. It was an excellent magazine. When JA was the editor, and it continued to be so until the new editor took over.

I am not saying he isn’t a good editor. But I do wish there was more content, and they didn’t just focus on the US population.

I like S&T and have copies dating from 1978, when I first brought a copy, at JBO here in Cheshire. I have subscribed to said S&T, ever since.

It used to be a very high-quality Astronomy publication in 1970-1980-1990. But it is not as good- now there is a new editor and they have reduced the number of pages. I much prefer the book style Sky and Tel of the 1990s.

in reply to: Lunar Eclipse #579765

It was a typically British evening for me. Clear and Sunny all day. Then as if by magic. A veil of cirrus began to show with high winds. That was from 16:45 onwards.

By 19:00 I had 90% cloudy and very obscured skies. Shaking a fist at the skies didn’t help. But it made me feel good.

We need the rain so we shouldn’t complain. I just want to know. Why the weather changed so quickly yesterday. Did it know there was an astronomical event taking place?

in reply to: Nova in Perseus #579441

Finally, a clear sky. And a nova.

I saw V392 visually using a 24mm Panoptic in my Celestron C9.25. FOV 0.69, magnification x97. From Teggs Nose Country Park

The Nova was very easy to see next to 93 Per. I thought N392 looked reddish to my eye’s.

To confirm I had indeed found it. I compared the eyepiece view with a picture on the Sky and Telescope website.

Macclesfield AS held a public star party last night. And we were fortunate to have this nova on view. A lot of people asked the same question. What is a nova?

I was able to explain to the best of my knowledge what it was.

in reply to: Nova in Perseus #579436

We have a star party this evening, and thankfully the skies are clear.

I will have a look at this and report back.

in reply to: USB over Ethernet #579347

    Good morning Grant,

My CCD and DSLR-Mount-Guide camera are all controlled via USB through the one cable.

I have a Startech 4 port, powered USB hub which all the cables on that side of things are plugged into, on my Losmandy G11. I then have a Mutech USB Repeater Extension cable leading from this into the Whirlpool control-room. This cable is gold plated. I have the cable plugging into another Startech Powered hub.

I have never had any issues.

    HTH.

Didn’t stand a chance this year. Cloudy and wet.

Hopefully the skies will finally clear, for the Geminids-Ursids.

    in reply to: Earthshine #578815

Is “Earth shine” also a good indication of how clear the atmosphere is?

I have seen ES. Many times, especially when the air is cold, and the ground frosty.

in reply to: Monday 21 “Eclipse Day” #578491

    Hi Nick,

A worthwhile trip I fancy. Excellent set of images.

It was also nice to see the Sun put on her own show, with that large Sunspot group, visible during the partial phases.

It was a shame. The BBC didn’t get involved with a special SGL or S&N program…

in reply to: Monday 21 “Eclipse Day” #578485

    That was incredible.

in reply to: 2017 eaw #578219

It has been a very long time, since we had a bright SN visible in the Northern Hemisphere.

I want to look at it and possibly image. But the weather has now turned. I hope members with better skies. Are able to send in useful observations. Wherever they may be, before the supernova fades.
